Donald Miller

I LOVE when a book gets you thinking.  When it awakens your senses to vivid imagery...when the language makes your tongue ache and grasp the book to your chest...

Lately I've been thinking/watching/re-reading a lot of Donald Miller...I love this guys use of words, his views, and his heart.
These night's its been hard to sleep...i keep picking up "Blue Like Jazz" here are a few soul lifting quotes for you readers at this late hour...

good night!

"Chess players go crazy, not poets.
You’d go crazy trying to explain penguins.
It’s best just to watch them and be entertained.
I don’t think you can explain how Christian faith works either.
It is a mystery.  And I love this about Christian spirituality
It cannot be explained, and yet it is beautiful and true.
It is something you feel, and it comes from the soul."

"And so I have come to understand that strength,
inner strength, comes from receiving love as much as it comes from giving it.
This is the greatest lesson I have ever learned.
When you get it, it changes you.
This is the prayer I pray for all my friends
because it is the key to happiness.
God’s love will never change us if we don’t accept it."

One of my favorite writings ever:

"All great characters in stories are the ones who give their lives
to something bigger than themselves.
And in all of the stories I don’t find anyone more noble than Jesus.
He gave His life for me, in obedience to His Father.
I truly love Him for it.
I feel that…
I think the difference in my life came when I realized,
that Jesus didn’t just love me out of principle
He didn’t just love me because it was the right thing to do.
Rather, there was something inside me that caused Him to love me.
I think I realized that if I walked up to His campfire,
He would ask me to sit down, and He would ask me my story.
He  would take the time to listen to my ramblings or my anger until I could calm down,
and then He would look me directly in the eye, and He would speak to me
He would tell me the truth,
and I would sense in his voice and in the lines on His face that he liked me.
He would rebuke me too, and he would tell me
that I have prejudices against very religious people and that I need to deal with that
He would tell me that there are poor people in the world and I need to feed them
and that somehow this will make me more happy
I think He would tell me what my gifts are and why I have them,
and He would give me ideas on how to use them."

That's my Jesus....=] Mmm.

"There is something beautiful about a billion stars held steady by a God who knows what He is doing. (They hang there, the stars, like notes on a page of music, free-form verse, silent mysteries swirling in the blue like jazz.)…"

the man has stirred up a lot of contraversy, haha.. but he sure knows his Jesus and he knows who he is in relation to this sovereign, creative, loving, graceful man. and i certainly admire his ability to paint with words and translate his insides into something so many others can relate to. he frustrates me, and yet i love him and truly respect him.:)
